I have a dark Rhode Island Red who acts broody for about a day or two over a 3 week period. She is 8 1/2 months old; will she ever truly go broody?

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

No telling, really. Most production-type RIR's are not known for going broody often, as it interferes with egg laying and has been selected against.

A couple of my RIR "acted" broody but did not sit for more than 4 days. I only have two of my marans and two aussies that have ever went broody and hatched a clutch. however in the spring I hope to use my Cochins.
