Rhode Island Reds vs. Buff Orpingtons

I would prefer a buff orpington. because I think they are prettier......

I only have one buff orp.........and she'll be leaving here in a week or so to go live with another bycer. She is anti social. She also lays a smaller, like med egg.

I think I got a dud.

I like my rir's better.

My favorite is the red SL. I know that's not what your asking but just had to add that.

I like & have both & both are great. Orpingtons are very sweet. The RIR's are great & adventurous (good scroungers & won't lose a treat if they can help it). Orps although big can get bullied but I luv em. I do agree on the breeder stock rather than hatchery. Definitely!

I have both.

The RIRs are nosy, friendly, bossy and bold. They think painted toes are food, no matter how many times they are told differently. They knock on the door and ask for snacks. They lay enormous eggs pretty much daily. The roo, even at 4 months was becoming nasty so he had to go.

The BOs are calm, timid, fluffy golden balls. Big Buff is everything you could wish for in a rooster; gentlemanly, protective but not aggressive and beautiful. These girls are consistently laying eggs, even without suppplemental light, and look like mobile balls of sunshine

Both breeds freerange well, and follow me to the snacks.
