RhodeBiel

My goal would be to have a large red barred chicken that is docile and lays well but not broody. I like the look. I have reached out to GFF to find out the major difference in RBs versus Biels. I know they aren’t the same breed but similar characteristics in a different wrapper.

Goals for me change with the season. It’s a personality flaw. My consistency is in size and personality. I just added to SLW , OE , PR and ICO to my flock but I am regretting my additions. I do not like to get hatchery stock because I don’t feel they focus on breed quality versus quantity. I get supply and demand. But this groups is crazy flighty. My Beils were so low key and friendly.

Go for Rhodebars then, the latest GFF strains look much better than their previous atempt and when crossed to Biels they will produce autosexing chicks too

Thank you for your help.

I guess I have OCD when it comes to chickens and goals. Each breed has a unique desirable characteristic. I typically like the larger calmer breeds. Our chickens are more pets. Since I started with Biels I compare other's behaviors to that of a Biel. Our Biels are very people friendly and are good producers. To some their color is a little bland but I think they are very attractive. That is where the attraction to the Rhodebar comes from. I don't really plan to be a breeder but I do like the ability to replace vacancies from within my own flock.

GFF was very responsive and they also made several suggestions of other breeds I might be interested in. Not that they mentioned any negatives towards Rhodebars but based off my questions other breeds that fit into that profile.I appreciate their helpful support and also what I took as honesty regarding several breeds. At the end of the day I made a left turn and went completely away from all of the discussed breeds, going with light and Dark Brahmas. Which fall completely away from Bielefelders other than their desirable personalities. We felt that personality trumps egg production.
