Ribh's D'Coopage

How much Apple cider vinegar do you add to their water ribh? I'd like to see if my girls would like it
As a disclaimer, lots of people think it's a fad & won't use it but my supplier recommended it & I followed her advice because she has lovely healthy birds. I have 3 5 Litre tubs in their runs, ONE of which always has just a capfull of the apple cider vinegar in it. You don't need much. The one I use has a little garlic in it as well. The other 2 tubs have plain water but I admit the ACV water always goes down first.

Not sure if you celebrate it in Aus or not, but we do here... So Happy Mother's day to all the Mom's out here :hugs
Thanks, Bob. Yes, we celebrate. I went over to the mainland yesterday to have lunch with my mother, YD & 1 DIL. DIL is pregnant & did her gender reveal @ lunch. I have a 2nd grand~daughter on the way.:love It was very lovely & I gave my mother [who doesn't like my chickens but surely appreciates their eggs:rolleyes:] a dozen of our eggs & my chickens, who were confined to the coop for the day, scolded & scolded when I arrived home too late to let them out.:lau

Because my sleep schedule is completely erratic I was up before my girls this morning & had them organised to go, go, go as soon as the sun was up. Which means some of the girls are already out in the big pen foraging & some are still in the coop trying to wake up properly & looking like they need their morning coffee!

Overnight the weather closed in so @ least it's a little warmer ~ 21C. OK, I get it. That's warm to you cold climate types but here it amounts to a need for warm jackets, mittens, UGH boots & a beanie ~ @ least! The wind is hovering @ about 12k from the sou'west; all our really cold winds come from the west, so not too bad, & rain is closing in so the girls may as well enjoy outside while they can. I have 1 cat in & 1 out after their morning ablutions ~ no, make that 2 cats in!:D I have some work to do for John but inbetween I am trying to finish off the Afghan I promised YD, which is only about 1/2 done because I don't like working with wool in the summer heat. Luckily she is a cold weather type & not freezing anywhere.

Today's madness ~ & we have only just begun.
Lotties answer to being short...

Hepzibah is hogging the favourite nesting box & chasing all comers out. Consequentially no~one has laid yet.

And Ha"penny is running round the coop screaming her head off because she wants that nesting box too. There are 3 others...but no; only that particular one will do!

My poor neighbours...

Well, I've gotten my first broody chicken. DW got bit pretty good going after an egg today. Didn't know the chicken was there until the first peck. This girl dug a tunnel under a piece of plywood and was hiding in there when DW got the turkeys to get off the eggs. She reached in to get them and strike of the chicken. So I now have four turkeys in varying stages of broodiness and one chicken. The blacks are just plain vicious. I have to grab them as far back as possible to still pen their wings without them being able to reach my hand, and since two share the nest it's a bit complicated as one can peck while I'm grabbing the other. So it's lift and toss X2. But I do have hands of shoe leather, so easier for me to take a peck.
