Ribh's D'Coopage

At present I am referring to these 2 as Tweedledum & Tweedledee. They are still going strong.

Shortly after I let the big girls [& boy] out this morning there was the most dreadful ruckus in the chicken coop. I found every chook in the place surrounding the last nesting box.
I can't figure out if they'd been checking on the chicks or waiting on Wrold's final egg hatching. Anyone got any insight?

They want to see the new members of the flock, ime.
Thanks, Perris. I thought that was probably it but they were surrounding the wrong box. The one they're gathered round has Wrold & her remaining egg & when I checked this morning it was showing no sign of hatching any time soon.

I was running late this morning.
By the time I got down to the coop the ladies had both bubs out & about for the first time.
Hysterical watching their tiny bums waggle as they attempted to imitate the adults scratching but they were dust bathing with Chavi & Tootsie when I left.

Did you secure the bottom of the run Ribh? If a rat can dig underneath it , your chicks are not safe.

I had rats in my run a few times, finding a way in. Once when I had chicks I lost 2.
It's 1/2 done ~ but in all honesty, I have more problematic predators. There are crows, currawongs, magpies & kookaburras ~ all killers. There is a family of foxes on the hill behind me. Whatever I do, there is going to be a risk for all the birds. Unfortunately I do not have the resources to build fort knox.
