I have a chick who is less than 48 hours old who initially seemed to be able to walk fine (albeit wobbly like a newborn chick is), but then less than 24 hours after hatching, could no longer stand up. It keeps legs folded under as though it is sitting down all the time and tries to hobble about that way. Seems to be healthy otherwise--perky looking and eating/drinking. Just can't stand up and the toes/feet are curling in (they were not like that initially). I thought yesterday it was spraddle and accordingly splinted the legs and made little foot booties for it, but in spraddle, aren't the legs going outwards rather than folding under? Could it be rickets, or is the chick too young for that? I've separated the chick from it's hatchmates (which it isn't too happy about) just in case it is something more serious.
