you only have to pull 3 socks to be sure of a color match. The first 2 could be green(a match) or they could be blue (a match). Or one might pull a green and one blue. In that case one would need to pull a third sock. That third sock would have to be either a green or a blue and would therefore make a matching pair when paired with one of the first 2 pulled!
