Riding a bike................

Wildsky, good luck. I'm still trying to get Drumstick to ride his bike.
We bought him this ridiculous mountain bike for his birthday but
getting him on it is hard. He can ride it but as soon as he realizes
he is riding it he forgets how and falls. The kid can practically drive
my little pickup.

When we were kids a bike meant freedom. We were much more motivated
than this generation to do it.

Sorry I am absolutely no help but I understand your pain.

Oh I remember the days.......I learned the old fashioned way, by falling alot and trying again so I could hang out with the other kids who were riding.

My son was too scared to want the training wheels off, but at age 6 I said well they are coming off and you'll just have to learn. We have no pavement so he learned on grass. If you can ride good on grass you can do it anywhere.

My neice just learned, shes 5. She has pavement so mom ran along side and held the bike straight and would let go. Rach would do fine until she realized mom wasn't there then crash LOL. She too ended up saying -go away I'll learn myself and she sure did.

I WISH I'd been sitting on the next hill LMAO!!!

i very distinctly remember my older sisters would stand about 30 or so feet apart and have me ride back and forth between them. kind of like parents would do when a baby starts to walk?
i would go back and forth. one would hold the bike while i found my balance and then push me off, then my other sister would "catch me".
i learned to ride in a few hours, i think i was 6 at the time.

He hasn't been riding much before you say. Than it might be an idea to give him a chance to do that more.

A thing I like to do is turn of the pedals for a little while to he can practice his stability with his feet ready to put on the ground. Like a kiddy-walking bike.

Another thing I do with scared kids, is put a long stick on the back off the bike. No more hurting backs and your kid won't notice when you let it go.

How old is he? I'm a babysitter and I tought many kids to ride between 3 and 7 years old.

We bought DD a bike at spent the first few days holding the seat while she peddled then we just set it in the yard and said practice. It seems like they just have to learn by trial and error. She picked it up pretty fast we she realized no one was going to hold the seat anymore and she just had to get on and go if she wanted to ride it. Never did put training wheels. I think it makes them learn to lean on it instead of making them work on balance from the get go. I feel the same about walkers for babies though so it's just mpo. Good luck he'll be burning out in your lawn before you know it. LOL

my first thought was motorcycle since i learned to ride one at 39!

bicycles and kids.... different mind set.
i had a handle that a friend bought that came off the back tire where the training wheel was, i ran with both my girls for a while and then let go a little more each time. i dont know where he bought the handle thing but boy was it a back saver! i know other people who raised the training wheels off the ground a little more each time, it worked for their kids.

good luck

I took a beach towel and folded it long ways then you take the towel and place it around the front of them and under both of their arms. I then brought the ends up over the back of their head. I would grab the towel while they learned to balance the bike with both feet on the pedals. Then once they get comfortable you can walk beside them or run while still holding them up. My daughter learned to ride her bike this way.
