This is 'Rosie'. (S)he's about 6 weeks old and I'm starting to really notice that comb and wattle. What do you all think? Too early? Boy? Girl?

Thanks!

How do you know yours are pullets Peepkeeper? Were they bought sexed?
Thanks for the glimmer of hope!! (thanks for all the input everyone!)

Not sure where to post this, but I have no previous experience with poultry. When we planned to get chicks we only wanted pullets, but that wasn't an option from the fellow we found who bred them. He suggested someone who would take the roos for meat but these were bought as pets and you get some attached!

I am a shift worker and sleep a lot of days. I felt that both me and my neighbour couldn't live with roosters around, but when we were at the farm getting the chicks I was really surprised that for all the roosters there, unless you were indoors beside one when it crowed, it wasn't that loud.

Will keeping the roosters destroy the peace? If of the 9 chicks we end up with 3-5 roos are they likely to get along (being raised together)? We have 1 coop. It's insulated, and I imagine that would muffle sound quite a bit...

I welcome thoughts!

I dont think you can keep that many. I agree that its only loud when your standing right there. But i have 2 so far and they have to keep trying to out-do the other. they crow back and forth til the dogs start to howl. I think if you......(like myself) are already attached to them, you'll just have to let it play out and deal with it as it comes. So relax for now and just enjoy them.

Hope I'm wrong for your sake, being a newbie myself, but we have 4 wyandotts just the same age - 2 silver and 2 gold laced and none of them have such a red comb yet. We ordered sexed day old chicks from Meyer, so they are SUPPOSED to all be girls.. Their combs are just starting to come in good and they are not as large nor as red as your guy's - much more a pale pink color. My girls will be 6 wks old on Monday.
