RIGHTS TO HAVE CHICKENS

My take on some people to move to the country: They dream of acres of manicured, landscaped lawn. Fresh air. Build a $500,000 house. Dream of watching deer in the distance playing in a field. Turkeys gobbling in the morning, coyotes howling at night. When the reality is deer eating all your hostas, turkeys scratching at all your flower beds. Coyotes coming after your Shih tzo. The smell of manure when the wind blows. The neighbors chickens pooping on your driveway. Roosters crowing. Large equipment running up and down the road through out the night during harvest season. AND then they call the law wanting ordinances changed to protect THEIR way of life. Who's encroaching on who here?

In the case of this thread, there aren't enough details to answer your question (although the fact the one startin' it is now a defendant may be somewhat indicative of who encroached upon whom ~'-)

However, I really do love your post. Figured you'd enjoy my own similar rant, from another thread a while back ...

And that is why I love the country. It's because of it's hard but rewarding life.

I feel so lucky not having to go through all of this stuff. It's legal to own chickens here in the Netherlands as long as they don't bother anyone.

In the vast majority of the US, we can as well. But, some areas (usually towns or developments) place restrictions on certain things. I saw one Ordinance that limited residents to only having a cat, a dog or a canary. Apparently, folks livin' there can't keep a finch. Or, even goldfish? Most often, these laws are not very well thought out. Check out this other thread, if you wanna see how difficult this can become for some ...

sorry to hear of your woes but if you live on a 2 acre lot in a subdivision and neighbors don't like your chickens. You don't live in the country.
