Rigid Foam Insulation Board being devoured by my chickens

Because they are chickens!
All insulation needs to be covered by wood or something to keep it away from the birds, and then it can become a safe haven for rodents or wasps. The only insulation we still have in our coop is in part of the roof, covered with plywood, which helps keep that area cooler in summer sun. We had rats move into the wall insulation long ago, they chewed right through the wood, and ate eggs and killed chickens. It was war, insulation and rats gone as soon as possible.

But could there be insects in it? Like, ones that they might eat?
Doubt it. Chickens just have a weird fascination with eating anything like Styrofoam or foam board.
Throw a Styrofoam cooler out there and it'll be gone in a day.
My theory is for some reason they're jealous of ducks swimming and they eat it so they can float and be as cool as ducks.
