mszekely...nope you have a good week to 10 days of fertility on those eggs. There is also a high probability that Bert will pass on his good genetics, including temperment to a son of his. I would not waste the eggs by cracking any open to check, just take the eggs from the next few days to a week and put them in a incubator. Once you get past a week, fertility percentages start dropping but fertility can remain for up to 2 weeks. Good luck!
I am sorry for your loss of Bert...I do understand how it feels. You can never replace a good rooster that you love but you can find one to walk in his foot prints with good stride.
