Thank you all for your kindness and words.. I do care very much for my flock.. even the nasty roosters I have happened over.. including one right now.. who despite how nasty he is I know he is doing his job protecting his girls.. I just have to remember to keep a stick handy to swat at him.. he nailed me a week ago from behind and I did not even know what happened.. I had a hellacious bruise and small puncture ( even had jeans on ) that has finally faded from black purple to a light purple! I have a couple other chickens the last of the old crew so to speak.. a little cochin bantam hen who is now around 7 who laid an egg the other day.. and a japanese bantam rooster who is the sweetest thing (name is Ping Pong) I love him to death and he is a riot to watch! He and the cochin (Popcorn) are inseperable and just do their thing.. will be hard when I lose them because it seems it is the last of my "old crew" Each of my special chickens has a burial over the years.. unfortunately over the years I have acquired a chicken grave yard.. but despite the sadness they have brought so much joy and laughter! I can watch them for hours doing what they do! I never really did anything over the top care wise for my chickens.. I have read that they can live to be quite old.. I realize most people don't keep them around after laying is over.. but it is the least I can do.. eggs or no eggs.. they bring much joy to my life! Enjoy your chickens.. and I recommend give em a hug today also! well all except that nasty rooster of mine.
