RIP Cricket

View attachment 1913863 I looked around this morning now that it is light outside and found this. Can anybody tell what this poop is from? Looks like whatever it was snacked on some seeds.
Do you have a persimmon tree? Those seeds look like them. Foxes, raccoons, possums, coyotes all love them, oh and so do deer. We just had a coyote eating under a couple of our trees about an hour ago. I've also seen foxes out there in the middle of the day chowing down as well as raccoons. All 3 of my trees are loaded this year. Never seen a possum in the day but I know they're out here.

Yes, we do have a persimmon tree in the front yard!

Ah ha! those trees are really cool but do bring unwanted predators! Our trees have so many bright orange balls of fruit on them they almost look as if they are lit up bulbs!

Last year we had 5 of the cutest little baby raccoons up in the persimmon tree nearest our house. Our Anatolian Shepherd took care of all of those! They were so cute but wouldn't have been so cute if they had gotten into the duck run! I can't believe that a coyote and fox has the balls to come in the middle of the afternoon to graze on the fallen fruit but they do!

Was Cricket outside when she was killed?
Yes, she was, in our fenced backyard. I believe she was also sleeping by herself. I think the fox got in by coming under the gate. I am going to start locking them in their house every night, and I put some electric netting up around the area. I feel so bad, but we have been really lucky to not have predators at all this year before now.

Yep, our dogs love to chase the deer. I see deer droppings all the time under the tree, and I looked today and saw some fox scat too. My neighbor has a pear tree closer to the lake that the geese love to hang out under.

And also, their house is inside the electric fence which is inside the regular fence, so hopefully that will do! I may set an alarm to get up around the same time he showed up and sit outside with my shotgun.

You definitely need to lock them up at dusk every single night. Hopefully, your night pen has hardware cloth all over it so that nothing can get through. 1/2" x 1/2" hwc will keep out mink and little vicious things like that.

My husband has a predator caller thing that has all kinds of noises it can make to bring out predators. We've got a ton of coyotes and he wants to get them all so he sits in the woodpile with his shotgun and waits but he's got a short attention span so it doesn't last long.
