I had 10 silkie eggs shipped to me. Only one hatched, a beautiful white showgirl silkie.

Since she was the only one to hatch she stayed as an inside chicken. Whenever I took her outside to have chicken time with the flock the head roo, a RIR, would attack her or she’d run back inside or just stay by my feet.

She got baths and blow dries, treats and more. Sadly, after about 5 months after hatching she has passed away. I miss her a lot.

Oh my, she really bonded to you. So sorry for your loss.

I had helped her hatch and would keep her in my shirt to keep her warm when I’d take her out of her house. Fuzz was the sweetest chicken; well to me. She was funny, too. The dog would try and play with her but Fuzz would annoyed and jump up to peck her in the nose. Since Fuzz was so small it didn’t hurt my dog. I just miss her so much.

You grieve her as long as you need to sweetie. I haven't lost a *personal* chicken yet, but any animal you love takes a piece of your heart with it. When I lost my dog, it took me 2 years to be able to adopt another pup..... have you thought about getting a new chickie baby?

I am actually incubating 5 eggs right now. On day 1! We found 6 eggs yesterday and I cracked check for fertility. One hen lays by the ac unit and my dog eats her eggs... so we were surprised to find so many in the base of a tree.

Our flock doesn’t use the coop... they like to sleep on the porch and recently started laying but they don’t lay where they sleep.
