I’m taking one of my girls to the vet today to be euthanized. I’ve had chickens for about three years, and this is my first of 15 to lose. I guess I’m lucky there, but also, I just feel horrible about having to make the decision.

She’s had something going on for a few months now and nothing has worked to fix her - vet took X-rays and said she probably has tumors - and now she’s started to have more uncomfortable days than not. She stands puffed up, eyes closed, separated from the flock. I can’t stand to see her suffering so it’s time.

She is such a good girl - middle of the flock, never caused trouble, great layer, just a good, chill bird. Wanted to share her here with other people who love their girls - the thing with chicken math is you don’t think about having to lose as many as you keep.

RIP Punky (B)rooster - I hope there is a special place for good chickens over the rainbow bridge (she looked like a rooster when she was a chick).

What a beautiful girl! I'm sorry you have to put her to rest. Although it is sometimes the kindest thing we can do as chicken tenders, making that choice must be tough. It sounds like Punky B was loved and cared for in an exceptional way and you are doing what's best for her. ❤️‍🩹
