I knew the day was coming. Shelia was my oldest hen, she was here even before we bought this property. I loved her glossy black feathers that had a green shine in the sunlight.
She was allowed to roam freely like my other chickens but always stayed close to her hen house and coop area.
She had a great life, long after her egg laying days were over. She passed away during the night and I found her on the floor under her perch spot.
Although I was a blubbering mess when asking my Dad to please bury her for me, I'm so happy she enjoyed a long life.

How wonderful it must have been to enjoy her for so many years.
