Ive only had chooks for 5 months, but the girls really got to me. Shirley (or shi**y shirley) as we named her on day one, was the boss. She was a real meany, but within a week of my 2 year old son petting her continuesly she became the sweetest little thing. Sidney was the only one of us who was unpreturbed by her pecking. The boy has a gift with aminals thats for sure.

Unfortunately Shirley started to lay the most emormous eggs and after lots of heartache and a worse than useless vet we put her down.

Sidneys keeps looking for her when we round them up at night, its so sad. He just doesn't get it.

So we say farewell to Shirley the girl who helped me with the washing, sunbathed with my Staffie bull terrier, and sat on the kitchen chair watching my bake cakes with her eggs! We will miss her greatly.
