RIR broody?

I'm just worried because winter is really setting in, in Michigan. I don't want my lone chick to freeze to death. My hens are still fairly young (from last spring), i don't know if any are really ready yet to be mothers. I know mine go broody but idk. I am thinking of just waiting until spring or summer to test this out haha. I think i will raise the baby chicks inside until they are fully feathered out.

3rd time my rir girl Lacy has given indignant 'backtalk' when I took her egg. I believe she is broody. I went in the coop for chores, she came out of box and went to food. I took egg. Seconds later she jumps back in box, looking around like she knows she left an egg here and making the purring noise. "Did I take your egg?" I ask. Purr. "Here u go I'll give it back." She pulled it in and sat on it, continuing to scold me! That afternoon she went into the large dog cage to brood. I've added 2 eggs from coop mates so she's got 4 so far. She keeps them all gathered but jumps up during the day when she hears me coming:treats? I snuck around the shed last night and she was sitting on them so good sign she's collecting her clutch for setting. My neighbor said I wouldn't have a broody rir unless it had white legs!
