RIR chicks, 3 weeks-M or F? (pic heavy)

Just an FYI- if my husband could have any chicken- he says he would have only rocks... He loves our rocks- he says they are just a GOOD CHICKEN!

I looked up partridge rocks and showed my son pictures. He is actually very happy that this is what his birds might look like.

We also have a barred rock hen (named mother pecker

) and she is one of our favorites. She is the first to take up a perch on your lap.

You may want to find out what others breed the seller had or how badly crossed the parent stock was crossed.
Also there is a possibility that the rooster is a Barred cross (as in a Black Sex-link) and the hen was a Production Red and not a pure R.I. Red.
A Black Sex-link over a Production Red Hen would give all types of odd colors depending on there Genetic make up.

Mine are most likely production reds as I got them from a hatchery (they were labeled RIRs, but ya know- hatchery). However, It is a good base- her chicks have to have some barring of some sort- I would think on a brown line like a partridge- but you are saying it depends on if the hen or rooster were X breed?

She did say the hen that appears to have laid these eggs was a RIR (as she was told) but did have some non typical RIR coloring. So maybe that was a mix of some sort also.

So- would her chicks be basically "EEers"?

If the Father was a Black Sex-link (say out of a Partridge Rock Male over a Barred Rock Hen) and the mother was a R.I. Red
F1 offspring could be Barred, Black, Barred tailed White, Red Barred, Columbian, Yellow/Golden columbian and Red Columbian,

If the Father was a Black Sex-link (say out of a Partridge Rock Male over a Barred Rock Hen) and the mother was a Production Red
F1 offspring would be much the same as the above cross with the addition of White and White Tailed Red Columbian

I would like to see pictures of the OP's parent stock that may help a lot.

They wouldn't be a EE because neither of the parent stock carries the Blue Egg Gene.

They were nice enough, but either didn't sell me the right birds on purpose, or had no knowledge of the fact their birds were mixed breeds. She did say that her birds were from a hatchery, but made a big deal out of making sure that I "knew" that her RIR was pure, even though it had black in it. Even to the point of saying she called the hatchery to make sure she got the right thing, because of the coloration. I had "that" feeling when I met with her that something was amiss, but was already there, didn't pay very much for the chicks, and didn't want to be rude (I was partly raised by my english grandmother), so I politely bought the birds and quickly left.

I was looking specifically for birds that came from very sociable parents. I did not meet the roo, but one of the (supposed) hens was very friendly. Several of these chicks are very easily handled and seem to have very sweet personalities. These chickens are for my son. He may not be able to use them for 4-H, but he does enjoy caring for them, and holding them. Mutts are o.k. with our family, as long as they are friendly mutts.

I will keep posting pictures of the chicks as they grow up to detail their coloration for anyone who is interested how they turn out.
