Hello everyone!

I am new to having chickens but have done a ton amount of research on them. We have RIR Hen who is about a 1.5yrs, egg-cellent egg layer, pretty relaxed and we introduced her to our flock about a week ago. On Friday, we found her hunched in a corner of the run very wet, dirty, and smelly. She had yellow-clearish liquid coming it of her mouth and was barely moving. We isolated her immediately and she ate and drank only a little.

Not much improvement over the last few days. Her vent was covered in runny poop (yellowish brown) so we gave her a warm bath and blow dried her. We replaced her water and food with apple cider vinager water. Any idea what it maybe? It has. Even super hot here with the index of 105*F.

Thank you again!

I can't tell you medical wise what is wrong, but try a vitamins and electrolytes supplement. If it is the heat or something else, that can only help..
Sorry for your introduction to the site had to be somewhat of a tragic reason, but there are others that will find this thread soon and offer more help..
Welcome to byc... I hope the best for your bird. Fc.

Here's a great article on a host of crop related issues - depending upon the feel and size of her crop, you may be able to diagnose one of many issues she might have. Also, it never hurts to use a fast acting liquid vitamin. I am a huge fan of Nutri Drench, and have had a lot of success with chickens that might be suffering from heat related issues.
One other thing that comes to mind is botulism - could she have gotten a hold of some spoiled or rotting vegetation or food scraps?
Hope things work out for you! :)

Welcome aboard! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.

Thank you everyone for your advice and links attached. Unfortunatly, she did not make it and passed away this evening. That's just life in the chicken business and we will make sure to take into account everyone's advice and information. Thank you again.
