I have 6 RIR's that are supposed to be about 3 weeks old. 2 of them are feathering out slower and also have more gray in them. The others all have more tail feathers and these 2 don't have any yet. I am wondering if they could be roo's. I realize its a little early to tell but if anyone has any ideas, I would like to find them homes rather than have them turn into dinner in a few months

. These are my first chicks and I am really attached to them already. I hope they turn out to be pullets. Sorry the pictures aren't great. The first picture is of all of them, I have 1 chick that is alot bigger. I think she is about a week older. The 2nd picture shows the 2 in question, you can see the gray in their wings and lack of tail feathers. Thanks!

I suppose they could be boys, but I really would wait another week or two and check the comb too. I never go off feathering alone because not every chick feathers the same. I had boys feather in completely and girls still almost bare! I'd wait, but that's just me.

Thanks for the input. I won't do anything about them until they are older. I was just trying to get an idea thinking about picking up a few more. If I get more chicks while they are young would they all get along? I was thinking about getting a 2 more of a different breed.

It's possible. I have 2 almost 3 week old Barred Rocks who just accepted 8 3 day old banties. They are acting like Mother Hens to them, lol even though they are 4 times their size! It's very cute
