RIR Roo?

Dang, I was afraid of that....hey, you say in your signature line you need a roo....

Yeah, I know, wrong breed, but I can always hope!

What are the chances of the two roos getting along, with 13 hens to share? At present, the red backs down every time, acts just like the hens, when the white roo says "go in the house" or "back off", the red roo does it. Also, I don't believe he's crowing yet, the white one has been for a few weeks. Can I hope for that state of affairs to continue?

I'm not sure, I only raise 200-300 Rhode Island Reds a year, but that appears to be a pullet.

it is deff. not a pullet, especially if it IS indeed 12 weeks old. and also, if you raised the roos together they should be just fine, and yes i do need more roos, if i was still in new york i would have bought it from you lol, but watch this "rooster" lay an egg, then i will shut up

Hensonly-look again at the 2 birds. Yes the combs appear to be similar but your bird clearly has pointed hackle feathers and main sickles [tail feathers].
The bird in the OP does have a large comb for a pullet but her saddle area is clearly visable-see those nice rounded feathers? That spells pullet to me.
j_b: don't know how long you've been raising your 31 Reds but I've raised probably 6,000 of them overr the last 25 years. While I wouldn't bet my life on this bird being a pullet, I'm pretty sure it is.

When the comb and wattles turn red they are about to start laying. It s a girl. RIR roos get their combs bright red a lot sooner an they are usually bigger.

hmm well then all my 12 week old roosters must be hens then, they look just like and i know they are roosters!

i know enough to know a rhode island red HEN will not have a comb and wattle of that size at only 12 weeks, so you whoever has raised 6000 you can say your experience has not paid off, if you cant tell by 12 weeks what it is!

Are ya'll talking about two different birds? I think NY is saying the original bird the thread is about is a pullet and the one posted by hensonly is a roo. I think you two are agreeing, but just confused about what bird is being discussed.

OP's bird is most definately a pullet on the point of lay! I am positive on her, hensonly's bird is most likely a roo. See how shiny his neck feathers are and how curved over the tail feathers are? That is a sure sign of a roo even if he isn't crowing... JMHO
