My RIR red rooster died over the weekend. He was only 7 months old. He had no marks on him from a predator or anything. He died right in the coop at night. The breeder I purchased him from said it was likely due to him eating something plastic or metal. He did seem a little bloated the last few weeks but I thought he was just fluffing up because of the cold weather and I have been letting them free range during the day under supervision.

I can't help worrying that this could have been a disease or something that killed him. All the hens seem perfectly fine. None of them seem bloated. Is there anything I should do or just wait and see if anyone else gets sick?

Same thing happened to me this morning. Found one of the pullets dead with no visible markings and she wasn't ill yesterday. I was told sometimes it just happens but keep an eye on the others for any type of illness.
