RIR Rooster or Hen?

6 months, the hen in question is a bit smaller than the rooster and has a normal tail, but is starting to get darker

6 months - she could start to lay any day, if female. Any reddening/growth of the comb is probably just her getting ready to lay. But, can't tell for sure without a picture.

When I mean darker I mean her back feathers, and only one of our 5 hens have started laying and it is our Cuckoo Maran. Our Ameracuanas have started nesting though

Does he/she have any pointy hackle/saddle/sickle feathers? By 6 months those should be clearly visible.

The one in question is the Red closest to the camera.

Agreed, Cockrel. Very well developed saddle feathers.
