Where did you get them from?

I don't have a picture of a 5 to 6 month cockerel but here is a picture of a 9 month old.

Not always true.
If a rooster carries the henny feather (HF) gene he will not have "pointy" feathers.
The bird in pic. 2 does have some what pointy feathers in the hackle. A late maturing roster might not show "sex" feathers till after a molt...

I think I some rather pointy looking feathers right before the tail feathers. It is hard to see in the picture. It took my RIR forever to get some sickle feathers that helped me decide. When I was trying to learn on mine I waited until I just caught a hint of that more elongated sickle feather and I banded them. It turned out to be a roo every time. I think I would wait on the axe, but sure think your looking at a pair there.

I must agree that #2 has some pretty rooish hackle feathers coming there, they don't get much pointier than that. And if folks here had had late bloomers, I would hold off and make sure, but watch for more hackles and some saddle feathers along with some longer sickles coming later. I would hate to see someone butcher a pullet or hen if it wasn't necessary.
Good luck.

#1 is a pullet for sure Not sure about #2 though.

I have two 5 or 6 month old young chickens. One of them looked like a roo for awhile but now is looking like pullet. I'm going to keep "Ginger" until May to make sure. If "Ginger" turns out to be a roo I'll change it's name to "General". I know I have one little Cockeral that I named Rocky. (These are Rusty's first pure RIR kids.)

Chris

I bought them from a local feed store in Mesa. They were supposed to be sexed pullets.
