I have 13 RIRs and it looks like I ended up with 6 of them being roos. They are 12 weeks now. At what age are they ready for the frying pan? Are they good to eat or do I need to find them a new home?

They will be ready when you are, they are good to eat, just will make nice fryers. Not as much meat as a bird you will get in the store but should have a better flavor. I would say between now and 15-18 weeks.

This past Tuesday I slaughtered 14 Plymouth Barred Rocks at 17 weeks of age. Out of the 14 birds I froze 23 lbs of meat. The breast were small, leg quarters much larger than I expected.

I used the back and wings to make 21 pints of stock, that I canned today. I simmered the backs, wings, celery, carrots, and onions over night in my roaster. Turned out great!

We just slaughtered ours this morning at twelve weeks.... we had a 1.11 pound one, a 1.13 pound one, a 1.14 pound one and i dont remember how much the other on weighed but it was between 1.11 and 1.14, they were all RIR.
