The main issue is that hawks, like most birds of prey, are ambush predators. Sharp talons and beak, aside.. they aren't really equipped physically for fighting. They don't have the physical strength or flexibility for it. Yes, the rooster is doomed... unless the hawk misses that initial attack. Then the playing ground is leveled. Once the hawk looses the elements of speed and surprise (which is the stoop and dive then impact), those are its most powerful weapons gone. If it lands in an awkward spot, like the ground or a low hanging branch.. or worse, under an overhang, a brave rooster can take it on with a decent chance of winning.

I couldn't agree more, by the way there are documented cases of one particular roo killing cats and crippling dogs in the Guinness Book. Granted that particular roo weighed 22 lbs...he was a cornish rock x and his name was Wierdo. So any of you chuckleheads who think all roo vs red tail fights are foregone conclusions, you are only kidding yourselves. There are many of us who own jersey giants, asils, shamos, etc. that are proven hawk guards. Remember, nothing in the animal kingdom is a guarantee.

Awe shoot, I was hoping for another hero rooster story. There have been a few cases of rooster gets the best of hawk but not too often. It seems one was a big RIR and another one of those big white meat roosters, forget what you call them.

u may say a hawk is a killing machine, but a game rooster is a fighting machine and a couple of quick jabs and the bird would be done
