when will my rirs start laying ... why does everyone keep telling me i have to have a rooster for hens to lay

You dont need a rooster for a hen to lay. They should start at 22-25 weeks but sometimes longer for the more stubborn lol

thanks i cant wait ... my kids are gonna trip, lol

i have 15 rir { i think ] some of them started laying at 18 wks, most at 20 - 23 wks

I have an RIR who is 20wks and not laying yet. Her comb and wattles have just started to get larger and more red this last week so I think she probably has another couple weeks before I will see an egg.
