Road kills

Once saw a dead opossum in the middle of the road with dead tiny babies around her.
Just too gross.
Oh that's so sad . I read that some rescue organizations actually go around in the spring and check the dead opossums for babies in the pouches. They rehab them. Someone called it "opossum picking season".
Seriously.

A question for the skull cleaners: I let nature take care of 95% of the opossum skull yuck, rinsed it off and put it in a peroxide bath for about three days. I've read that's the most gentle way to do it. Now that I'm letting it dry it's literally falling apart at every seam. Never had this happen before.
Any suggestions?

My preferred method is boiling and then an enzyme-bleach powder clean. If you do any step too long it will either yellow or become brittle. It’s really a little fickle. And even if you do everything right, you have to keep track of teeth and sometimes natural seams will fall apart, so super glue is a necessity. I’ve tried leaving it to the bugs and everything just fell apart. I tried letting it “rot” in water and it ended up too yellow.

Just finished cleaning a nutria and a mute swan skull. Both road kills.

Now that’s really sad. My nana has seen geese crossing the road with goslings and someone hit one baby and the momma attacked the car. The car had scratch marks all over
