Rock Collectors Unite!

another rock lover here! i am always looking for heart shaped rocks, and fossil rocks. i am always amazed when I find clam shaped fossils in the rocks on the mountains here at 3000 feet. have passed on my fossil rock hunting skills to my 9 year old grandson.

I'm a geologist. Love rocks so much I went and got two degrees about them.

My bookshelves are covered in them.

I refuse to admit how many boxes full of them I have. (If I don't admit it, I don't have to deny it when he asks!) The Hubs would shoot me. He is also the reason they are only on the bookshelves. He has forbidden any of my collections taking over the house.

I love rocks, any kind, any color! I walk in my creek looking for shale specimens and fossils. I have topography maps, soil maps, maps of bedrock, well logs. I have a total passion for geology. Who knew there were rock hounds on a chicken forum?

I grew up in the desert of southern California, and had an awesome collection (not sure if they were anything special, but they sure were purty!) The box was so big and heavy, my stepdad wouldn't let me bring it with when we moved.

My mom would tell stories of taking me to the river (Colorado) in the summer, and laying down to sunbathe...while she was doing that, I was collecting apparently, as she would go to leave, her purse was about 20 lbs heavier

We just drove down to Arizona, and the little town I was from in February. I had big plans to go out rock hunting, but I became ill while down there. I didn't even step foot out in the "desert"-> actually rock hunting *sniff*

It's boring for rocks up here, unless you count field boulders pulled out of the soybean/corn fields, or landscape rock around houses-pfft. I did recently learn of a type of agate out by the black hills (western SD) so I think I'll be doing some searching the next time we are out that way.

on my mom's behalf! She loves rocks, particularly Native American artifacts. She has some grinding bowls, pestles, etc. and I used to have a GREAT wonderfully precise arrowhead that I lost during a move...

I live in the southern California desert. It is an oasis for rocks and I spend quite a bit of time with my head down when I walk around.
