Yep yep, I do remember walking to school, and not really remembering much about the walk, as my head was always down

Gosh, I miss that!

Where are you in SoCal?
I live in SoCal, rockhound heaven. Started collecting minerals a couple of years ago after finding a pegmatite in the back yard. Here is a picture if my "bookend". Collected on the property about 400 feet from the house.

It is a very large microcline feldspar crystal. I've got several others, but this was the best.
Sence this picture was taken the spar was cleaned in oxalic acid for a few days and it cleaned up very nice. I should take an updated picture to show it after cleaning.

I love climbing the local hills and turning over rocks. lots of quartz, schorl, beryl, topaz, herderite...

I also started faceting. Bought a used ultratech and am having a blast turning rocks into gems.

This is from a piece of smokey quartz found on the property.

These are all from locally collected quartz.

Psst...there is an old Amethist Mine out back of my property, somewhere. Bring you dirt toys, motorcycle, and such and go look for the trail from the mine, there have been findings....I have not seen it yet.

We also have an old volcano out here and you will find lava rock all over the place, Now I did find the lava rock and can show you.

There is also some kind of club out here for finding rocks, etc.
We also have a place with those old indian drawings on the rocks.
