Rocks...right?

The legs were the first thing I noticed, too. There are several approaches to treatment, do a search for scaly(scaley) leg mites to find a treatment that works for you. You didn't get Leghorns, but they are nice birds.

Oh, and be very careful of MS. Farm Boy, he is a very dangerously funny guy!

Her legs are yellow but they have a dry white crusty look to them. Is that mites? Don't seam to bother her any that I've noticed.

Haven't dealt with em personally, but looks like it from other pictures I've seen. You can search around the forum here for info on how to treat for them!

Nice looking birds. I like the EE one.
I went to a chicken auction/trade once looking for leghorns and came home with black australorps

As common as they're said to be, white leghorns sure are hard to find when you want to buy some.

To the OP- Regardless, you don't want mites in your flock. May I just say that the person that these are from is not someone who you'll want business with in the future. Hope that's all that is wrong with the birds.

Otherwise, enjoy them.

I agree.

I been doing some reading and it looks like common cooking oil can help clear up the mites. Gonna try it.

I agree with all.....lovely EE hen!!

About the mites......my best friend picked up some bantam crosses that had HORRIBLE cases of the leg mites. Much worse than Big Mama's look. She put some canola oil in a butter tub and dipped thier legs in it every night for a week. She said it cured that right up better than new! (Actually, not really....some of her birds lost toes because of how bad it was!) But it was easy to cure. Good luck!

OK got our first egg today. Its brown.

Looked into the scaly mites. There seams to be a million and one ways to cure the problem. I decided to try dipping there feet in cooking oil to help.

Heres a pic of BigMama's feet before.
