Well , this is rockys story!!! He was bought from dublin (where we used to live!!) by a farmer livin down the road , but he got bullied , not properly cared for and in a right state! so , not knowing what his breed was the farmer , micheal , decided to cull him for a dinner as he was large in the boody , but short in the legs , his breed is the ultra rare scots dumpy wich was nearley extinct in the 1900's! its so rare due to its creeper gene wich kills 25%+ chicks in the eggs! and fertility is hard to archieve! so when we found out , and where looking for a rooster who was nice (i had a bad fear after all my previous roosters being vicous ). we got him home right before christmas , and he was in such a state!! he instantley fell deepley in love with our 2 rir hybrid ladies , rosie and matilda! he was afraid of people , so me and him got over our fear together! he got back to full health , was pampered and living the dream , and receiving more ladies! i incubated eggs , they hatched he became a proud father! but...he had a nasty pine martin attack during mid day on a hot sunny day while the flock where dust bathing , and in an extreme attempt to save rosie threw himself at it , and lost his tail! but lived , i dont know what happened exactly i wasnt there , but his spurs had a bit of fur on them , and his tail was gone! also gone where 2 hens , big beautiful outgoing rosie , and jumpy aggie! it was sad , but we got on with life! and then , trouble! a fox attack! tail gone again , but he saved a hen being attacked , i was going to get to her but i would have been too late , he saved her! and months later , a hunting dog broke in! i looked out my window before rushing out...he hng limp in the dogs mouth , bouncing along as the gog shook his lifeless body , i threw a brick at the animal , and before rocky even hit the ground-HE STOOD , HE RAN AND HE SCREAMED! rocky had puncture holes all over him , but at the back of my garden ebony sat bleeding , rocky used his tail to distract the dog away from her is my guess , they were both saved because he was smart enough to play dead in its mouth , ebony is now broody , and his chicks to come in 4 days! i will update
! but probably the most lovely act he has done was only a month ago , when a rather large hungry mother fox stepped near my decking , i ran out , but stupidly brought no stick , thinking it would run away from me , so i looked to my side and rocky alerted me he was there , but al the hens were down the end of the garden , rocky bravely stood it in the face , making sure it didnt get passed him , i jumed in between the 2 of them , and shouted at it , trying to look scary so it would run , it didnt it ran at me and nearley bit my leg , as it was running and snarling , rocky jumped in front of me , and slit its face! it jumped back , and ran in to a ditch , it ran off and i let the dogs out after it! even if it bit me , i could have kicked it , but it would have hurt , and if it was carrying a disease would have been nasty , so rocky was brave enough to deffend me , his hens and himself! i dont know how he is still alive! bt he is , and our dogs are out all day now , and he is safe and sound! i feel partly responsible , but again he is so brave! im lucky to have him , and love him he has many girls now m and is very happy -and ALIVE! heres a few photos of my handsome mr.rock! the then and now , is the day we got him , and now! also one of his sons(the white one)! and the one of him crowing he only has 2 tail feathers!
