Rocky64's chat thread: anything is welcome

Haha that's funny. I personally wouldn't like to have chicks in mid winter, but hey the hen does most of the work at keeping them warm, so it's not that big of a deal I guess lol.

Haha :gig have you ever had all roosters in one hatch?

I have not hassle roosters in a hatch before, but I've had it pretty close, like 2 hens and 6 roosters. It seems like eggs favor roosters over hens lol

I'm hoping to get a rooster this year to get chicks and to protect my hens. They're has been a cat wondering around my coop and it seems to be wild.

It shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of a rooster, especially at this time of year when people are getting rid of unneeded birds so they don't have to feed then during winter. I have two cats that are barn cats and they don't bother the chickens, my silkie rooster and my isa brown hens even chase the female cat. But if that cat is wild it may attack chickens out if hunger

Thanks:) that's funny how your chickens chase your cat, I used to have a chicken who attacked my 50 pound dog and was standing on his stomach while my dog was rolled over on his back :gig

Yeah I feel bad for the cat sometimes because they peck her pretty hard lol. Haha that's just too funny, I bet your dog never looked at chickens the same after that :gig
My white silkie rooster got out of his outside area and went under an apple tree and started pecking at fallen apples when a yearling doe came out of the nearby woods( I was watching all this from inside) and started eating apples as well, but when the curious yearling stuck her nose to sniff the chicken, he pecked her viciously and jumped and the deer took off pretty fast :gig my white silkie too doesn't like other animals too much lol he didn't even back down from an Irish setter running at him

Haha! Your rooster is funny! My dogs go after deer but never my chickens. That deer must have been scared. :gig your rooster sounds like a very brave rooster, my old rooster would attack my dog and peck her in the face and she would run away, my rooster would also attack squerals which was pretty funny.

Yeah he's quite a character. You have a good dog, My dogs go after anything that moves, especially cats and deer. Yeah the deer looked pretty shooken up :gig yeah he's brave for his smallish size, he challenges the head and second in command roosters, the head one being about 3x bigger than him. Haha sounds like your rooster had a hate for your dog lol. I bet the squirrels were surprised lol.
