Rodney the Rooster

I think I am ready for an epson salt bath! I will treat him everyday. I really feel bad that I did realize he had a problem. Oh well, learn something new everyday! I am going to put together a first aid kit for them so I am not running around when something arises.

Thanks again!
thats what i need too, maybe some of my scales will fall off! hhehe

Thought I would give you an update on Rodney's leg mites. I have been treating him everyday with the epsom salt soak, neem and aloe gel, and then vaseline. He is doing great! His legs look so much better. The old scales are scabbing up and underneath is new healthy growth! It is remarkable how much better he is doing. I am going to keep it up but he is definitely on the road to recovery. None of the other birds seem affected. I am keeping a close eye on everyone though. I gave them 1/2 a pumpkin today and then spilled birdseed in the yard filling the wild bird feeder so they were very happy. What do you think about giving them bird seed once in a while as a treat? They seemed to really like it.

The birdseed is just fine :) BOSS is probably the best one for them. It's high in protein.

How many birds do you have? The scaly leg mites take a while to look like they did on Rodney. You could spray their legs with cooking oil to kill any potential scaly leg mites before they look like Rodney's. I find that the easiest way to do a whole lot of birds at once.

Glad to hear he is doing well!

I give everyone some preventative attention this weekend. I have nine chickens.
