Hi,

I'm curious if anyone has heard about and actually tried out the rollaway nest boxes where the nest is sloped at an angle and when an egg is produced, it rolls down the slop to a spot outside the nest box.

They say this prevents egg eating and also keeps the eggs clean.

Also, this book I'm reading recommends using that fake plastic grass for the nest box as it is easy to clean.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as we haven't yet built our nest boxes and I'm interested in knowing the pros and cons of this.

Thanks in Advance!

I've seen lots of people on here say they use them with good success.

I've never tried them, though, as our current boxes are part of the wall. We made them from plywood with hinged doors so we can access them from outside the coop. We haven't had egg eating problems yet, knocking on wood...

I haven't used them but was wondering too. I don't have a problem with dirty eggs and so far no egg eaters.
