Roo crowin'

Well my roo just started crowin a day or two ago, how long til they start laying? There right at 6 weeks of age... How long til I try and incubate some eggs, I imagine a month or so after they start layin? Thanks all...

I have bad news for you... roosters aren't going to lay any eggs.

Coturnix hens typically start laying around 40 days but some start much later. I'd wait till the hens have been consistently laying for 2 months before trying to incubate. I'm going to try my hand at incubating some of my own when the weather turns cooler. It's just so much easier if you are incubating indoors so you don't have to run a/c 24/7 (because the room temp is supposed to be 75-77 to cause air exchange to take place in the kind of incubator I have).

Well I guess it could be any time now then... I guess I'll try and find a place with consistant temps. We don't run the air... It's too hard to go out when you get adjusted to the artifical atmosphere...
