roo eating eggs ??

I have noticed my hen had about 5 eggs in her nest, the next day there was none,, hmm, no varmit has been getting in, i noticed a small hole that a couple squirrel were getting in to steal some free food, they ran when i entered the coop,fixed that spot,, then i noticed the rooster pecking at a broken egg on the ground, will the roo or the squirrel eat the eggs ?? can't be a case where there hungry as there is plenty to eat, new to the chicken raising and need some input , thanks

My hens lay them on the roost so they drop down and break and then the roosters eat them.

Too smart for their own good.

this hen had them in a nest, then there ALL gone ,, no clue where they went, seen a part of a shell the roo was pecking, ??
