You shouldn't feed them layer exclusively. It has too much calcium in it for the roosters! If you mix it with cracked corn though the roosters usually prefer and pick out the corn or whatever grains you give them; at least ours do. We don't feed layer at all though except sometimes in the winter maybe. Ours free range and we give them a mix of grains seeds and corn. Not all feed stores sell the Flock Raiser stuff.

I have a fantastic rooster so I don't want to chance even potentially harming him.
I also like that FlockRaiser has higher protein (20%) than most layer feed.
My flock gets Mix treats (yogurt, bread, random stuff) fruit treats, scratch, layer food, egg shells, and grit.
Anything will make them fat if you feed too much of it, including scratch. Corn does help them stay warm in the winter.
Our flock free ranges so we don't really have a problem with them getting too fat, except a couple who are really lazy and never
run around much. We don't have any flock raiser type feed available to us here that I've seen; wish we did!
