Roo fight injuries- broken beak??

Rooster fight injuries!! ahh!!

Our big buff boy got in a major fight with our little pekin boy- our pekin boy is essentially totally fine. but our buff boy was too overwhelmed to fight back + has some pretty big injuries.

his beak seems cracked? we have zero idea how to fix/treat this, any tips would be greatly appreciated, we are totally lost!! it’s not cracked all the way through, and it’s not breaking off or any thing but it does have a sizable crack on it still.


his wattles are very damaged and bloody, we have tried to clean them up but they are also super swollen and he hates having them touched at all, i imagine it’s super painful.

the first few pics were taken a few hours ago, most recent one was around a minute ago, his wattles have blown up like little pillows

For the wattles I would put Neosporin or vetericyn on them and let them heal on their own. get a secondopinion but if the beak seems to be intact I would put a bit of superglue on the crack to help prevent further injuries.

If the beak is stable, then I'd leave it alone. If it's not then you can use a teabag and superglue gel to stabilize it until it grows out. I will link to instructions for that. The glue needs to be gel rather than liquid, the liquid runs too much and you don't want to glue his tongue or anything else.

I also would use the neosporin or veterycin on the wattles, if needed. Combs and wattles usually heal fairly quickly unless they are getting reinjured. Sometimes the swelling is just from the trauma, it also can be a hematoma. The comb and wattles have a lot of blood flow (helps them regulate body temp) and lots of vessels in them (so even small injury can bleed a LOT). Sometimes those vessels get broken and blood pools under the surface making a blood blister, or hematoma. Those will eventually go away (assuming no more trauma), but it can take a while.
You may need to separate the roosters permanently. Some roosters can coexist fairly peacefully once pecking order is established, but some will continue to fight and won't tolerate another roo around. Injuries can be severe and sometimes fatal depending on the birds.

thank you so much! we will try the superglue trick. we were thinking about permenantly separating them and having staggered free ranging times for them, while our little pekin boy is the aggressor and remains unscathed he’s the most likely to be the fatality if they get into another serious fight, due to their serious size differences.

How is he doing? This looks so painful.

I have also seen the tea bag and superglue trick from the Chicken Chick, which seems to be the best method. Separating them seems a good option. Poor boy!

he’s doing good!! a small part on the tip of his beak did break off despite our efforts, but he can still eat/drink totally fine and no exposed tissue ect.

separation seems to be working well, we’re getting into a better routine aswell, there have been times where they’ve been out together (under supervision) and been totally fine with eachother but it isn’t something we wanna risk again so soon.

his wattles have fully healed- they’re all back to their usual red and no infection!! very very glad he’s recovered well
