My 8 mo/o rooster, Fu Xi, has hollowed out a little area in the corner of the coop beneath the nest boxes. He doesn't sit there all the time, but when he's in it, I swear he sounds like a broody hen. He also makes "treat sounds" to his favorite girl, like maybe he's trying to get her into the little nest. Is that what's happening, or is he terribly confused?

Poor darling, he really never had a male role model!

I already have one broody hen setting; if he's making his own arrangements, I need to do something!

He's trying to entice a hen to lay in a spot that he's picked out for her.
Roosters are silly creatures. Gotta love em.

Oh, isn't he cute? Wish my guys would treat their ladies that nicely!

Elmo, it's like that -- except the goofus is making the nest under the nest boxes!

It's funny, because his main girl (the one he's doing this for) isn't ever "serviced." And that would be his job. I really don't understand.

My roo's special girl "Lil Bit" isn't serviced either. She must be really good at preening his saddle feathers, because he takes extra good care of her.
