Roo interested when Hen is laying; normal?

We witness a strange (well, to us) and amusing behavior from my wonderful BUff Orp. Roo. He only does this with one of his own breed hen (we have two Buff's and two BArreds). When they are out of their run/coop, he seems to "assist" her (one of the Buff's, esp. one called Dum Dum) in finding a place for her and getting her into position; all the while making various groaning, gargling and growling noises. Then he either squats and watches her, perfectly still, or stands over her until she's finished!

It's the craziest thing!
Does anyone else have such an interested and attentive roo?
