Hi all,

I got Easter Eggers for the first time and am curious if this is a Roo or Hen. The chick is 12 weeks old and is larger than the others I got around the same time (see comparison of white chick to this one). No crowing or spurs yet.

Thanks!

You can tell the first bird is a cockerel because it's growing in the characteristic long, pointy hackle and saddle feathers.

The white bird looks like a pullet in my opinion. Sometimes cockerels will get a patch of reddish feathers on their wings/shoulders as they grow, but this bird has a small, pale comb and (although it can be difficult w/ white birds) I really don't see the pointy hackles.

thanks! this is really helpful.

What about the white one shows that its a roo? It's my first time getting Easter Eggers so I'm not familiar with coloring, etc with this breed. I bought females, so I'm crossing my fingers at least one is not a roo.
The red feathers in the shoulders is typically a male trait, especially on white birds.
