Hi--

I was told that this is a brahma bantam but not what type of brahma, does anyone know? And is it a roo or hen? The pics aren't great I had to use zoom on the camera because the chick is super shy and doesn't like to be approached. Oh and it's one month and 3 weeks old.

How can you tell if its a cockerel or not? I would just like to know how to sex this breed.

Dark Brahma cockerel. The main giveaway of its gender is its coloring. Female Dark Brahmas grow in penciled black and white feathers on their body and black/white striped neck feathers. Males grow in black breast feathers and silver feathers in other parts of their body. Your chick has a mostly black breast and white patches on his wings, which gives him the developing coloring of a male.

He has a large and red comb that has a triple row on his pea comb that almost always indicates cockerel. Dark Brahma females look much different and have penciling, while the males are black with white on their back, wings, and neck.
