This is a 14 week old black australorp. I began wondering if this little girl was a rooster when I first introduced them to the older ladies and she actually protected the other little ones. Them she began to grow. First her legs and feet soon the rest of her was bigger than my three year old red sex links. Her peep sounds more like a goose and this morning she perched and made this long sound but it was not identifiable. Even though I know what this all sounds like, I'm not familiar with this breed and I'm curious if anyone can tell by looking a the pic. I think I will need more hens if I keep a juvenile rooster and I already am attached so I probably will.

Rooster. That much comb for the age, the start of saddle feathers, and the gawky, gangly look all say male.

I guess I need to educate myself on roosters. I've read they can be a handful but important to the flock. So far,
he has only pecked my husband in the mouth.... Definitely a keeper! Kidding of course, I'm mean if I had to choose between the two. Thank you all for responding so quickly.
