Roo or pullet

View attachment 1098232 View attachment 1098233 I'm another one of those new "chicken mamas", and have either a rooster or a very confused hen. I have 6 4 month old feather babies, and our Maggie is a Rhode Island Red that could be a Maxwell. I have been quizzing my friend that also has chickens but I'm still not satisfied with any of her answers. I want to believe that we have a hen here... I really don't want to have to find Maggie a new home. This one has started a rather unflattering crow, but I'm being told that hens will sometimes crow if they take over dominance of the flock. I have been watching for a spur, see none. And she only has developed one green tail feather. Can someone give me their opinions? Thank you!
That's a boy no doubt. Hens CAN pick up rooster behavior. My 4 year old hen tried to crow a few weeks ago. However, it's impossible for them to develop rooster feathers. That's genetics.

Any ideas of age, type. First pic was 8/5, 2nd pic 8/13. And is there a place in South Bay Long Beach area to have it sexed---it was running loose in a barn area.

I'm a new chicken mama. I've had 3 hens since the beginning of May. They are now 23 weeks old. My buff orpington has always been the boss and although all my hens are the same age, it is significantly larger. The other day my buff mounted my barred rock. Do I have a roo??

That's definitely a rooster. I'm surprised he hasn't crowed yet.

Call him Maxwell, but don't be so sure that you won't grow to love him. We got our first rooster in the same manner, and he has now become one of our favorite chickens.
