ROO ROO RAMBLING

Yeah, I'd been thinking of checking back in with an update of him on that other thread. Super weird. 🤔 His hatchmate from the same batch of eggs doesn't have a speck of white on her (but of course I don't know if they're full siblings or even part siblings, as I bought their eggs from another farm).

Maybe we both can share a line of color changing chickens. The mother of the Chameleon hen is being to change color now. Posted updated pictures recently.

Yours started changing at like 2 years old, though, right? The original hen, I mean. Mack's only about 7-and-a-half months old, so quite a bit younger than that, interestingly. I'm almost tempted to test cross him to my Mottled Cochin hens to see if he really is heterozygous for the mottling gene or if it's at least related, though his health issues growing up still have me hesitant to hatch any of his progeny.

Yes, she started turning at 2yrs of age. Mother is turning 4 this year, & is now changing color.

Test breeding will definitely help to tell whether he is split, for mottling, or not.

Yeah, I just don't know if I want to hatch out a bunch of potentially weak / sickly chicks if he's got some kind of issue that can be passed down, you know?

I'm going to go post him on Nicalandia's thread again. I'm kind of wondering about how likely he is to keep or continue getting his white flecks if he is hetero mottled anyway.

Breed him to the most healthy bird you have that's mottled. I really don't think he'd pass any weak genes down.

Okay, sounds good.
