'Roo setting!

My rooster - Louie(was supposed to be 'Lois') - was sitting on an egg this AM! He was clucking a lot to the hen whose egg it was...she was clucking back and observing from the coop door...was very amusing! I have seen him make nests for the ladies in the past...a real gentleman!

Funny! I've never seen that, but I have had roos who seem to show the ladies around at potential nest sites. They always humor him politely, but in the end return to the nestboxes, or some other secret place they found themselves. I also had one who would often wait, standing outside the box, while a favorite hen was working on an egg, taking only quick breaks for food and water. When the deed was done, he would escort her back to the flock.
