So I had my Jap Roo standing on my leg while I searched him for injuries. I noticed that he is shaking, trembling on his feet. I've held chicks, hens, and they sometimes seem to quiver or shake in your hands.

Are they cold, scared, what?

Also, what the heck is it when a chicken purrs?

If you were inspecting him for injuries, was he attacked by a predator?? That would explain the trembling. I would think the same of younger chicks if they only do it when you hold them - just frightened. Unless they are cold. Purring is a sound they usually make when feeling secure and contented. Or they may have swallowed a small kitten. Just kidding. But it's a good thing.

Thanks. I was on the right track.
Yea, they were attacked the other day. But I've noticed chicks shaking that I have inside. Sometimes even if they lay in my hands.

I've notice this too. When mine go to sleep in my hands they sort of tremble. I'm not sure what that is all about...but they are very relaxed when they are doing it.
